do u need to buy a new rod for a baitcast reel?

ive been fishing for bout 2 months and im planning on getting more serious about it and ive decided to make the switch to baitcast. i dont want to spend too much money however, and i was wondering if i needed to buy a new rod for a baitcast reel or can i just attach it to a spinner reel.

Your best option is to use a bait casting rod. A spinning rod starts with very large eyes & works it way to small eyes. This is to compensate for the large swing in the spinning reel/line when cranking. The bait casting rod will have eyes all the same size, as the line goes goes straight out & straight in.

However, the most important part would be that the Spinning rods are fished with the eyes facing down, while the bait casting rods are fished with the eyes facing up. Thus, they are made to bend in that direction…so if you use a spinning rod with a bait casting reel, the bend in the rod will be opposite to what it is intended to do.
